Explanation of Condition

Autoimmune disorder where antibodies are directed against the cell membrane. May be found in association with SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) and other autoimmune conditions. Sufferers have episodes of blood clots (thrombosis) or recurrent miscarriage in association with an antiphospholipid antibody or lupus anticoagulant.

Risk of thrombosis, and risk of transmission. Discuss with MO. Not acceptable at any stage if proven antiphospholipid syndrome according to Sydney Criteria.

May donate if has antiphospholipid antibodies/lupus anticoagulant without history of thrombosis or recurrent pregnancy loss.
