Explanation of Condition

Inherited disorder of red blood cells, commonly in Africans, causing elliptical shaped cells, instead of the usual circular discs. Usually a mild and fairly asymptomatic disorder, although those with more severe types may have significant haemolysis (blood breakdown by the spleen).

Guidance

Acceptable if not clinically significant. Discuss with MO and inform transplant centre.
