Explanation of Condition

There is a risk that variant Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease (CJD) may have been transmitted by neurosurgical procedures between 1980 and 1992, particularly in those receiving a dura mater graft.


Guidance

Establish reason for procedure. Discuss with medical officer. See also Surgery.

Acceptable if performed after 1992. Acceptable before 1992 if burr hole only. More extensive surgery before 1992 may be acceptable if it can be proven that a dura mater graft was not used.
