Explanation of Condition

Failure of the body to regulate sugar entry into cells that need it. Caused either by failure of insulin production in the pancreas (type 1 diabetes) or insulin resistance (tyoe 2 diabetes).

Guidance

Acceptable if diet controlled only at recruitment. Not acceptable if on anti-diabetic tablets or insulin injections at recruitment.

Acceptable at CT stage if diabetes is well controlled on anti-diabetic tablets. Discuss each case with Medical Officer.
