Explanation of Condition[edit]
Abnormally high body temperature (>38.0 grades Celsius).
It can have many potential causes: different micro-organisms (bacterias, viruses, parasites), medication (G-CSF included), etc
Guidance[edit]
Unacceptable if accompanied by shivering, cough or there is an evident source of infection:
- Shortness of breath, productive/dry cough and or chest pain - respiratory source
- Abdominal pain, diarrhoea and/or vomiting - gastrointestinal source
- Severe headache accompanied with loss of consciousness, delirium and neck pain - meningitis or other brain infections
If isolated fever with no clear source of infection and donor is currently on G-CSF, it can potentially cause self-limited fever and flu-like symptoms, therefore donation may not need to be deferred (as per discretion of attending Medical Officer/Medical Director).
