Explanation of Condition

Medication blocking the production of testosterone. Often used in treating disorders of the prostate.

Guidance

If less than four weeks since use, refer to MO. Inform transplant centre.

Donors are advised not to give blood for four weeks after taking Finasteride. This is to eliminate risk of exposure of a pregnant women to Finasteride through blood / blood product transfusion. In the setting of stem cell donation this is unlikely to be a concern, but TC should be informed if donor is taking Finasteride.
