Explanation of Condition

Autoimmune condition causing paralysis of the entire body, usually starting with the feet and rising up from there (ascending paralysis). Life-threatening without ventilatory support, but the condition spontaneously remits and most sufferers will make a full recovery.

Guidance

Never acceptable for PBSC

May be acceptable for BM if more than two years from recovery, with no recurrence of symptoms, and neurologist can confirm typical monophasic GBS that recovered within 12 months.

Discuss with MO and inform transplant centre.
