Explanation of Condition
A detached retina is when the thin layer at the back of your eye (retina) becomes loose. It needs to be treated quickly to stop it permanently affecting your sight.
There is a theoretical risk of impact of filgrastim on the small blood vessels of the eyes especially the retina, but data is very limited and there are no cases reported in healthy stem cell donors.
Guidance
Donors with a history of retinal disorders or detachment should be deemed for marrow-only, unless a recent ophthalmologic evaluation has ruled out any abnormalities.
