Explanation of Condition
Condition where the neural tube in a developing embryo, which eventually forms the brain and spinal cord, fails to close properly. This may result in very mild or no symptoms in some, to severe disability in others. It may be prevented by taking folic acid supplements prior to conception, and during the early stages of pregnancy.
