Unacceptable if current diagnosis of schizophrenia. Donors with a past history of schizophrenia, but currently off medication and not requiring regular psychiatric follow-up may join/donate following discussion with the medical officer.

−	Donors with active schizophrenia may not be able to give fully informed consent. Potential donors with non-controlled schizophrenia may suffer a breakdown and required urgent medical advice (admission, clinic appointment) with its subsequent complications~~: not turn up to~~ medical assessment or donation, ~~reject to have~~ G-CSF ... Since it is not possible to assess every donor and ensure they are mentally stable to proceed with donation, the general rule is to not allow donations from these patients.
