Seizures caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. These can be secondary (e.g. as a result of a brain injury), or primary, where a precipitating cause is not found.

Acceptability at Recruitment
ACCEPT if seizure-free for the previous 12 months WITHOUT medication.
DEFER if currently requiring medication or seizures are related to an underlying organic pathology (eg Cerebrovascular Disease, traumatic brain injury, Brain Tumour)
Acceptability at VT / Work-Up
ACCEPT if seizure-free for the past 12 months WITHOUT medication.
DEFER if currently requiring medication.
Guidance
Unacceptable if has had an epileptic event in the last year or if there is an underlying organic pathology. Otherwise acceptable.
Non epileptiform or "pseudo" seizures:
Unacceptable if any 'seizure event' in the last year. Otherwise discuss with MO, further information required.
