Explanation of Condition
High platelet count, most commonly as a result of infection or inflammation. However, it may be high due to myeloproliferative neoplasm, a type of blood cancer.
Guidance
Establish cause and discuss with medical officer.
Reactive thrombocytosis is acceptable if cause identified and platelet count has been subsequently shown to return to the normal range. If identified at work-up, defer until investigated.
