Explanation of Condition
Accidental penetration of the skin, or splash in the eye, with an object potentially contaminated with bodily fluids.
Guidance
Discuss each case with the medical officer.
Acceptable if four months have passed since injury. Unacceptable if needle/instrument may have been contaminated with abnormal prion protein.
This guidance applies as long as NAT testing for hepatitis C remains in place.
