Explanation of Condition

Yellow fever is a tropical viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, causing symptoms like fever, jaundice, and, in severe cases, organ failure.


VT/WORK-UP

ACCEPTABLE - May donate if more than 4 weeks from a donor's return from a yellow fever risk area, and the donor has had neither symptoms nor evidence of infection. If the donation is planned for less than 4 weeks from a donor's return, establish their vaccination status and inform the TC. The donation may proceed before 4 weeks from return at the discretion of the TC and MO.

DEFER - If it is less than six months from a donor's return from a Tropical Virus Risk endemic area and the donor has been diagnosed or has a history of symptoms suggestive of yellow fever whilst there or following their return to the UK. This period may be shortened at the discretion of the transplant centre following discussion.
