Explanation of Condition

Inflammation of the kidneys which may cause severe renal failure. There are many different causes including autoimmune conditions (e.g. IgA nephropathy, Wegener granulomatosis, Goodpasture syndrome, SLE), infection (e.g. pyelonephritis) or drugs (e.g. penicillin).

Guidance

Establish cause. Unacceptable if chronic and/or associated with autoimmune disease. Acute GN may be acceptable if more than five years from full recovery. Discuss with medical officer.
