Acceptability at Recruitment

All donors with present or past Monkeypox infection or recent smallpox vaccination are acceptable. Please note on donor's file to check at later stage if matched to check if fully recovered and at least 28 days have passed either since the infection and all skin lesions have scabbed off if person was infected and that at least 8 weeks have passed from the vaccination if vaccinated not with IMVANEX®.

Acceptability at VT stage

QUALIFIED Although infection is unlikely to spread without prolonged contact with the infected person but the deferral times will be guided by the healthcare provider’s policies.

Acceptability at Work-Up and for CGT

QUALIFIED under the following conditions:

DONOR WITH CONIFRMED MONKEPOX INFECTION

Donor with active infection should not donate and the following deferral times should be applied: Donor can be concessionary cleared if at least 28 days from the confirmed Monkeypox infection have passed and if: - At least 14 days since the donor fully recovered from symptoms (including ALL skin lesions healed/scabbed off) and donor feels well - At least 7 days from the completion of antibacterial or antiviral medication completion have passed (see active infection) - Donor has been discharged from follow-up, including Public Health surveillance TC will need to be informed and concessionary release form signed by AN and TC. Post-donation infection: please inform MO if donor is diagnosed with Monkeypox within 21-days post donation. Will require discussion with Public Health advisors. TC will have to be informed.

CLOSE CONTACT WITH PERSON INFECTED WITH MONKEYPOX

The incubation period from the contact to the first symptoms is 21 days. Individuals who have been identified as close contacts of by Public Health Services must be deferred for 21 days. If they then develop symptoms or are diagnosed with Monkeypox, please refer to DONOR WITH CONFIRMED MONKEYPOX INFECTION section.

Post-donation contact: if donor informs after the donation that they had contact with infected person within 21 day period pre-donation, please inform MO as requires discussion with Public Health services. TC will have to be informed as well.

VACCINATIONS related to MONKEYPOX

Some CLOSE CONTACTS or people at higher risk will have IMVANEX smallpox vaccine. It is live-attenuated non-replicating vaccine and as per JPAC, should be treated as non-live vaccine and no deferral is required. However, CLOSE CONTACT guidelines might need to be applied. If, however, alternative brand of vaccination was used the following rules should apply: - At least 8 weeks have passed from the vaccination or any secondarily infected sites have passed - Vaccination site has to be healed - All infected sites have healed

If close contact with someone recently vaccinated by non IMVANEX smallpox vaccine has to be deferred if: - Any skin lesions present as a result of close contact - At least 8 weeks have not passed since the skin lesions appeared
